Coaching Session Descriptions

We’re all at different places on our wellness journey. The sessions below are designed to meet you where you are and then go from there. You can choose a direction from the descriptions below, or Meg can easily personalize your session based on your needs and where you feel you most need guidance.

Your Wellness Compass

There’s good news! You already have all you need to feel your best and live your best life. Your Wellness Compass session reconnects you with the wise, intuitive, and empowered energy of your “well-self.” Once you have that energy, confidence, and power back, setting a positive course for success is easy. You will leave this session with a clear, colorful, wellness compass to guide your day-to-day journey back to wellness.

Take Back Your Life!

Your wellness and life’s purpose can easily become lost or buried under the myriad roles you play in your life; wife, partner, mom, daughter, friend, employee. Perhaps you’ve asked yourself the question, “What happened to me?” or “What’s next on the horizon?” Why not reclaim your wellness with this Take Back Your Life! session? Identify what eats up your precious time and energy, reconnect with what makes you feel happy and well, then head home with a practical feel-good path for living your best life.

Inspired G.O.A.L. Setting

Goals are important! They give life meaning and energy, and make our hopes and dreams come alive. But goals are also scary, overwhelming, and elusive! We set them and too often forget them. Meg’s Inspired G.O.A.L. Setting session uses the empowered energy of your “well-self” to help you get clear about your path and energize your actions for guaranteed success. There’s a lot about traditional goal setting that gets turned upside down in this session. Be prepared!

The Perfect Glen Ivy Day

With our 19 unique pools and saunas, Taking the Waters is a signature Glen Ivy experience designed to deliver relaxation and special benefits to your skin. To receive the maximum results to your skin and muscles, there is a recommended order to try each pool.

Man Mineral Bath 72dpi

To start your pool experience off, we recommend a few minutes of immersion in one of our hot Mineral Baths, where natural minerals are easily absorbed into skin, imparting warmth to soothe aching joints and muscles. You will also notice the sulfur-like odor emanating from the waters due to the concentration of Sodium Sulfate in addition to small Calcium deposits which occur naturally. Rest assured, the waters come directly out of the earth in this form and our mineral baths are circulated every 10 minutes.

Next, take a dip in one of our Cold Pools, soothing sore muscles and allowing your body to cool off after a hot mineral bath.

After you take a cold dip, we recommend relaxing in our Lounge Pool, a perfect place to wade or float on a raft while catching up with friends and enjoying a refreshing beverage from Paradise Bar.

To get your blood flowing, try our Lap Pool for some exercise or catch a quick water aerobics class for a burst of good-for-you endorphins.

Finally, sit back and relax in our heated Saline Pool or enjoy Glen Ivy’s natural beauty beneath 106the Santa Ana Mountains with majestic views of the Temescal Valley from the Vista Pool.

Pre-book our Fall Escape Package; which includes a 50 minute or longer service and receive a discounted Taking the Waters Admission rate of $35 Mon & Fri or $55 Sat & Sun and Holidays. Or come in Tuesday through Thursday and enjoy $18.60 Admission with a service.

Find The Joy in Fitness Again

We can all agree that moving our bodies more is one of the best things we can do for our wellness, right? But oftentimes, that’s as far as our consensus goes. While some people love to exercise and find it easy and enjoyable to carve out gym time in their day, many of us feel just the opposite. To this subset, exercise feels hard, painful and let’s be honest—b.o.r.i.n.g!

Not so at Glen Ivy Hot Springs. Our JoyFitness program is all about adding the joy back into exercise. When movement feels good, we are more likely to look forward to doing it, and water provides the perfect medium for getting back into the exercise groove. Our signature aqua classes, including Aqua Fit, Aqua Yoga, and PiYoH20, combine the supportive environment of the water with fun and energizing formats suitable for all fitness levels.

The same is true for our land based wellness programming. Each day we offer a variety of fitness and mind body classes such as Morning Core Stretch, HoopFit, Tai Chi, Hatha and Kundalini Yoga classes, and Gong Meditation. Classes are held on our beautiful activities deck overlooking the labyrinth, providing the perfect peaceful setting for reconnecting with what is truly important to you about your health and wellness.

The healing waters of the hot springs have been the main attraction for wellness seekers for over 155 years (oh, and the nachos too!). But now, our JoyFitness program gives you another reason to step out of your busy life and head to the hot springs for a feel good fitness experience. Visit the activities calendar on our website when you’re planning your next visit, and be sure to arrive early for check in. While loose, breathable clothing will make your fitness experience more comfortable, it is not mandatory. JoyFitness is all about come as you are, move in a way that feels good, and just enJOY the life affirming gift of movement.

SPOTLIGHT ON WELLNESS WITH COLOR AND MUSIC

The selection of activities at Glen Ivy Hot Springs serve as your resource to health, fitness, relaxation and renewal, and every month, we add and develop dynamic programming for guests to enjoy, designed to achieve a toned body and peace of mind. This month, we are proud to offer a special JoyFitness class, “The Magic of Color and Sound,” taught by Debbie Nuccio Durrough.

Based on the principal that a color or song can make you feel a certain way, the class draws from the concept that when you learn to associate color and music together you can learn a deeper sense of your feelings and be able to bring a sense of peace to your heart, body and mind. In “The Magic of Color and Sound” class, Debbie will give each student a blank canvas and water color palette, then share the meaning behind colors, working her way through the spectrum. Then a song will then be played that matches the color and its mood. The design will start to flow from your paint brush as the music is played. Whatever you are feeling will display on your canvas. As the music changes, you progress through all the colors. It is an enjoyable, emotional experience that will help you to open your heart, mind and body to be able to interpret the language and magic of color and sound.

Debbie is a Heartbeat of Reiki Drumming Master Teacher, Color and Sound Therapy Practitioner/Teacher; a trained HealthRYTHMS Facilitator; a Numerologist; and Feng Shui Consultant whose passion is “with teaching and facilitating a variety of holistic alternatives that support self-empowerment, personal growth and the new interpretation of “wellness.”

Creating A New Relationship With Yourself As A New Beginning

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, some of us may be in new relationships, some of us might be married for 20 years, and others of us might be single and open to love. No matter your relationship status, however, the most important thing is for us to work on improving our relationships with ourselves. Glen Ivy Hot Springs tapped UCLA grad, Pilates & Yoga expert, Structural Integrator, and wellness guru Leila Shukur to share with us a few tips on how to learn to love yourself. Self-love comes in all sorts of shapes. By taking care of ourselves, carving out time for ourselves, and making sure to listen to and recognize our own needs, we are able to create a positive relationship to ourselves! When we truly love ourselves, the world is opened up with possibilities. Before I walk you through some of my tips for creating a more positive relationship with yourself, I have a set of rules to adhere to.

Leila Shukur

Try not to make any comparison. When you start a new beginning with yourself, you want to not compare yourself to a past you. Just start fresh. Next, just delete the need to try to understand yourself. If you are driven by a need to understand, you will never be happy. There is no need to understand why or why not. The human condition wants us to be a really cerebral person, but you need to stop trying to understand, and learn to accept yourself unconditionally, and with a sense of humor. Once you find a sign of a sense of humor in yourself, the process will be much more fun. Allow yourself to make fun of yourself!  With that said, here are three key steps to creating the best you.

  • Fear is just excitement without breath. When you learn to breathe from a present place, it will help inspire you throughout the day. The only true difference between fear and excitement is the ability to breathe. It’s the first and last thing you’ll ever do, a real vital and inspiring practice. Learning to take yourself to a place where your breath is present is as simple as just practicing five minutes a day, sitting with yourself and breathing. Connecting with your breath will inspire you, and to be inspired draws a sense of excitement. So just breathe. And do things that inspire you to breathe: cardio, driving, meditation!
  • Get grounded. Just take off shoes and walking in sand, earth or cold grass. This is a way your body can respond to feeling secure. Ask yourself, how do you experience security? Safety? Your partner? Holding hands? Independence? Being around others? Know what makes you feel secure in any of these ways. You don’t need to know the answer immediately, but it’s important to ask yourself the question to stay grounded.
  • Embrace life. Be in a relationship with life where you embracing it, not brace for it. When you are bracing life, nothing is getting any better, you can feel overwhelmed. When you sit in your mind and worry, and you can’t transcend, you cannot embrace. Look at life and embrace the process. Repeat the mantra: embrace do not brace. Do only what you can, without taking on more than you can chew. In order for someone to truly know themselves they have to know what they do, and embrace it.

Five No-Fail Feel-Good Resolutions For The New Year

Meg Root is a wellness activist who writes, speaks, and coaches about health and wellness. Her practical, feel-good, wellness advice that ANYONE can use to get back on the path toward lasting health and perfect well-being is ideal for attainable New Year’s Resolutions. Here she shares with us her no-fail, feel-good resolutions for 2015:

Let’s be honest. We have a love-hate relationship with New Year’s Resolutions. We love them because they provide hope, energy, and motivation to change our lives for the better. We hate them because they always seem to fizzle before the first week in February.

So, how can we make peace with this annual tradition, and finally enjoy the ecstasy of accomplishment and success? Easy! Simply choose no-fail, feel-good goals that are focused on the process instead of the product. Current research supports taking small positive actions day in and day out until they add up to the result you’re looking for—a healthier, happier life. Are you in? Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Do one thing every day that makes you feel well! It doesn’t have to be big, bold and time consuming. Simple things like taking a ten- minute walk, eating a healthy snack, and practicing gratitude can all lead to instant wellness gratification.
  • Move for a few minutes every hour of every day. Moving more is the single best thing we can do for our wellness. Set the timer on your phone for a “move more” break every hour. In one day you could easily add 80 minutes of activity without even trying!
  • Be kind to yourself. A Harvard study showed that practicing self-compassion leads to greater happiness. It can also get us through the ups and downs of positive change. Turn down the volume on your mean girl voice and channel the one of a supportive best friend. Feel happy now!
  • Celebrate your accomplishments. At the end of each day, look back and give yourself credit for something that you’ve accomplished. Write it down and put it in a jar. Then watch the jar–and your life–fill up with wellness.
  • Find one wellness friend and commit to helping each other become better than ever before December 31, 2015. You are 40% more likely to accomplish your goals if you have the help of another person. And at the end of the year, the world will have two healthier, happier, people!

Simple, doable, repeatable . . . I call these Simple Acts of Wellness. Finding things that we can do even when life is crazy busy—which is most of the time—means that we don’t have to wait to feel good when our goal is accomplished. We can feel good NOW!
