Five No-Fail Feel-Good Resolutions For The New Year

Meg Root is a wellness activist who writes, speaks, and coaches about health and wellness. Her practical, feel-good, wellness advice that ANYONE can use to get back on the path toward lasting health and perfect well-being is ideal for attainable New Year’s Resolutions. Here she shares with us her no-fail, feel-good resolutions for 2015:

Let’s be honest. We have a love-hate relationship with New Year’s Resolutions. We love them because they provide hope, energy, and motivation to change our lives for the better. We hate them because they always seem to fizzle before the first week in February.

So, how can we make peace with this annual tradition, and finally enjoy the ecstasy of accomplishment and success? Easy! Simply choose no-fail, feel-good goals that are focused on the process instead of the product. Current research supports taking small positive actions day in and day out until they add up to the result you’re looking for—a healthier, happier life. Are you in? Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Do one thing every day that makes you feel well! It doesn’t have to be big, bold and time consuming. Simple things like taking a ten- minute walk, eating a healthy snack, and practicing gratitude can all lead to instant wellness gratification.
  • Move for a few minutes every hour of every day. Moving more is the single best thing we can do for our wellness. Set the timer on your phone for a “move more” break every hour. In one day you could easily add 80 minutes of activity without even trying!
  • Be kind to yourself. A Harvard study showed that practicing self-compassion leads to greater happiness. It can also get us through the ups and downs of positive change. Turn down the volume on your mean girl voice and channel the one of a supportive best friend. Feel happy now!
  • Celebrate your accomplishments. At the end of each day, look back and give yourself credit for something that you’ve accomplished. Write it down and put it in a jar. Then watch the jar–and your life–fill up with wellness.
  • Find one wellness friend and commit to helping each other become better than ever before December 31, 2015. You are 40% more likely to accomplish your goals if you have the help of another person. And at the end of the year, the world will have two healthier, happier, people!

Simple, doable, repeatable . . . I call these Simple Acts of Wellness. Finding things that we can do even when life is crazy busy—which is most of the time—means that we don’t have to wait to feel good when our goal is accomplished. We can feel good NOW!

Last Guest Of 2014… First Guest Of 2015

In 2014, Glen Ivy Hot Springs welcomed 165,000+ guests who joined us to spend a day creating memorable and meaningful experience to add to their year. With our 155th Anniversary year upon us, 2015 is already off to a great start. Our guests are very special to us, so we wanted to introduce you to our last guests of 2014, as well as our first of 2015.

Celena and Raul closed out 2014 with a day filled with our signature treatments, the famed Glen Ivy Club Mud and healing waters. “Glen Ivy is like a great oasis to escape to. I keep coming back spa so I can share my experience with new people, including Raul,” said Celena. A guest of Glen Ivy’s for over 10 years, Celena is eager to try the Grotto on her next visit.

Cheri Frost, and her children Kaysie and Trevor were Glen Ivy’s first guests of 2015. Cheri is a true Glen Ivy staple, returning to the hot springs year upon year. While Kaysie has joined her mom in the past, this visit was a celebration for Trevor’s 16th birthday, and first visit. An avid swimmer and water polo player, Trevor spent his time in the lap pool, while Cheri & Kaysie enjoy Club Mud, and the Grotto. Of course, they also just enjoyed some quality family time relaxing in the lush surroundings.

We appreciate all of our guests, who joined us in 2014, and have already made 2015 very special. Your support throughout the years truly makes us what we are. Glen Ivy is looking forward to seeing you as we continue to give you memorable and meaningful experiences every day in the New Year!

The Pocket Guide and a Philosophy of Wellness

phi·los·o·phy noun \fə-ˈlä-s(ə-)fē\ :

: A particular set of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life, etc.

: A set of ideas about how to do something or how to live

: Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline.

: A system of thought based on or involving such inquiry.

I ask each Esthetician who applies for a position at our spa “What is your skincare philosophy?” Most, if they did their research on our company, give me a generic answer, a pre-packaged or pre-defined answer () about being organic in their choices or using products that are natural while still providing results. Others, who did not do their research, offer a long explanation of the products they are familiar with and how each guest has different needs. Some may even get into the details about peels and aggressive therapies.  My intention with the question however, is merely to see where they land in the spectrum of wellness. How much have they matured in their decision making process regarding the subject. Is wellness even on their radar? Every once and a while you get an applicant who gets it. Wellness is about the timeless truths; nature’s beauty, healing properties provided in abundance from mother Earth. The idea that what we put in our bodies and on our bodies matters.

The following is my interpretation of our Wellness Philosophy otherwise bundled as the Wheel of Wellness. Providing a haven for likeminded individuals to partake in what Glen Ivy has to offer; a lush environment of native plant and animal life, opportunities to experience healing waters and therapies, enjoyment of remarkable and healthy cuisine and a place for connection or re-connection with loved ones. It’s a place where you’re comfortable being who you are and there are opportunities to experience something new, to engage in activity that promotes a sense of wellbeing.

Wellness is achieved when the above are aligned, intentional, informed and balanced. A decision is made and a lifestyle begins to surround yourself with your new found philosophy. You begin translating this wellness lifestyle in to every aspect of your world. Excitement when you discover a new piece to your wellness puzzle. This is why I am so excited when I see innovative ideas from companies like Spa Heroes. Their take on wellness brings the concept to a whole new level with accessible facts designed for the consumer and incorporated in to a convenient Pocket Guide. The Pocket Guide is an ingredient intelligence guide that breaks down the heroes and the villains in our skincare products. It clearly points out what to stay away from when making skincare choices, things that are proven to cause cancer and infertility for example.

Who needs a reason to celebrate?

Who needs a reason to celebrate? You can celebrate life, love, accomplishments, triumphs, or whatever you want! A celebration could be as simple as gathering up a group of your best gal pals for a little fun, honoring the bride to be with a special day, creating lasting memories for someone special on their birthday, or just simply spending time with the one you love to relax, reconnect, and renew your relationship together. There are so many things to celebrate, and it is important to make these moments memorable and meaningful.

Cabana 2

If you like to be surrounded by beautiful views, relax in the sun, talk with your friends, pamper yourself with a massage, treat yourself to a facial that will leave your skin glowing, indulge in some delicious nachos and top it off with a delectable cupcake, have a drink (or two) and just be able to enjoy the moment then a celebration at Glen Ivy is just for you!

Citrus Cabana jpg-6562

To make your celebration at Glen Ivy more memorable you can enjoy a semi-private cabana for the day! Add all of the things you love about Glen Ivy and top it off with your very own concierge service for the day; there will be no need to wait in line for a food and drinks, you can sit rooftop in the spa and overlook the float pool and the stunning Santa Ana mountain range, you will be taken to your spa appointments and have no cares in the world. It’s the perfect addition to enhance your spa experience and create a lasting memory of a very special celebration. Former cabana guests have said they can’t enjoy Glen Ivy any other way now! Sounds like a reason to celebrate to me!

Spring has sprung at the Hot Springs!

Spring is here! It is a time when we typically put away winter coats and boots and go for a pair of shorts and flip flops. Although, this winter has been quite different, and it seems as though we have been living in our shorts and flip flops since last spring! It is still nice to look at all of the wonderful things that spring can bring.

Enjoying the Hot Springs on a warm, spring day can be a breathtaking experience. All of your senses are invigorated as you soak into a deep relaxation that you may never have thought possible. To start, the sights of spring are all around you. The views of the Santa Ana Mountain range surround you, while birds fly overhead and the beautiful, vibrant colors from the newly sprouted flowers and plants bring the essence of spring to life. The smells of fresh blooming flowers, sunscreen covered sun bathers, and the striking, yet refreshing scent of the mineral baths fill the air, reminding you that you are in a tranquil paradise. The sounds of birds chirping, water splashing, and people laughing immediately transform you into a happy, enlightened mood that radiates through your soul, just like the warmth of the sun on your skin or the soothing touch of the warm water over you.

Spring at the Hot Springs is a time for renewing and revitalizing yourself. You can enjoy the healing waters, relax in the warm sun, rejuvenate your skin in Club Mud and The Grotto, learn something new with one of our JoyFitness classes, satisfy your taste buds with a savory meal from Café Sole and curb that sweet tooth craving with a delicious cupcake, treat yourself to a service or two, read a book, chat with friends or just simply do nothing and relax for you.
