Last holiday season Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa had a few very special visitors from the remote Pacific Island of Tanna. As part of the Travel Channel show “Meet the Natives“, these five tribesmen traveled across the country, staying with different families each week to learn about American culture. During their time with a family from Orange County, the five men – Chief Mangau (the Chief of the tribe), Keimua (Head Dancer), Sam (The Medicine Man), Kuai (The Happy Man), and Namus (the Translator) – came to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa while the Travel Channel filmed their day at the spa, including their experiences receiving massages and pedicures, and getting muddy in Club Mud. It was such a fun day being with the tribe and seeing the awe, excitement, and, at times, question in their eyes – it will be very interesting to see (now that it’s been translated with subtitles) what they were actually saying and thinking!

Be sure to tune in to the Meet the Natives episode this Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10 p.m. E/P. Until then, read more about their Orange County adventure in this article from the Orange County Register.

The process is really as easy as taking a picture and gives you a print out of your skin that shows a more in-depth look at your skin’s health than what can be seen by the naked eye. Using your skin scan print out, our estheticians will be able to create a personalized skincare regimen to fit your skin’s needs. As you all know, I made plans to partake in a Watsu massage here at Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa (see previous post) so I could fully describe first hand what a Watsu experience is really like. So, here’s my experience…

When I got in the pool, I jumped a bit expecting the pool to be cooler rather than the warm water that it was. Janelle Muse, Glen Ivy’s amazing Watsu therapist, went over what to expect and asked me if I had any issues that she should be aware of during the session. After we got that out of the way, she put the floats on my legs and then we began.

It took me about one minute (literally) to get comfortable and almost instantly after that, I fell into a different level of consciousness. It is one of the hardest things to explain. I felt like I was sleeping but I know I wasn’t. I was so at ease and relaxed; nothing concerned me at that moment in time. I was floated while Janelle used various massage techniques during the 50 minutes of my service including stretching of the muscles with long strokes, reflexology and my favorite: a head, neck and shoulder massage. It was an incredible feeling!

Janelle sure was right about Watsu being an enhanced sensory experience. After the service, I felt just as peaceful and rested as a traditional massage, which pleasantly surprised me. I wouldn’t say that I had doubts, but I really wasn’t sure how I would feel afterwards compared to a traditional massage. I had heard how incredible and spiritual a Watsu massage is but experiencing it was one of the most unbelievable feelings ever.

Long story short, I sure am glad I was WATSU-fied! I felt like a new person afterwards – I was rejuvenated, relaxed and felt amazing all around. I thoroughly enjoy trying new things so getting the chance to experience something that I have heard such great things about was a joy. I am very, very excited that Watsu is now offered at Glen Ivy!

Our wonderful Community Relations Coordinator, Elizabeth, took some video footage of my Watsu adventure. Check it out!
