Private: Corona Landscape Worker / Horticulture Educator – PT
The Horticulture Educator position will focus on improving, increasing and conducting educational tours, programs and guest services. This includes primary responsibility at the direction of the Director of Landscapes and Sustainability for designing printed material, botanic signs, short talks, guided and self-lead tours and in depth workshops and programs.
In addition, this position will be responsible for maintenance and detail work on the plants, hardscape and structures within a portion of the Spa. This area includes Back of house, pocket park and rainforest with a focus on trails and walkways.
Following is an example of the primary duties to be performed by the Landscape Worker/Horticulture Educator position.
Zone Work
- Weed beds
- Trim and Prune edges of sidewalks and trails as needed to maintain a safe and clean edge.
- Dead Head all flowering shrubs, trees and annuals as needed
- Monitor irrigation to insure that all plants are receiving optimum water
- Remove spider webs as needed. (probably daily in Summer and Fall)
- Hose/wash down walkways, walls and decks as needed
- Remove dead or dying limbs, leaves or root suckers as needed
- Replace or replant plants as needed
- Conduct basic pest control
Education Work
- Conduct daily tours of the gardens and grounds
- Monitor, maintain and improve botanical signage
- Develop guest information including self guided tours and related printed information .
- Blog about Glen Ivy Gardens
- Design and Conduct at least one weekly workshop
- Conduct daily guest talks
- Work in the Garden Shop providing retail customer service
- Other tasks as assigned.
Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
