Silliest DAD Contest
Celebrate Father’s Day Sunday, June 19
Does your dad deserve the title of “Silliest Father?” For all the reasons we love Dads, making us laugh and smile is one of our favorites. Taking the lead from our playful June Challenge, we want to hear about your father’s humorous ways and show stealing antics! In 30 words or less, tell us what makes Dad so silly. Does he dance around like a maniac just to make you smile or did he make up silly games to play with you as a kid? Whatever silly things your father does, post your entry right here on our blog. Just add a comment below by Wednesday, June 13 to be entered to win some great prizes.
The winners will be announced on Friday, June 17 right here on our blog and on the Glen Ivy Facebook page.
Now for the good stuff..the prizes!
One grand prize winner will receive two admission, lunch, and Grotto passes to use at Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona, California. Our two runner-up winners will each receive a “2-for-1″ Admission voucher. There are plenty of chances to win so what are you waiting for?! Brag about dad!

When I was in high school, my dad used to take me to Angels baseball games. During one game, I remember the Angels were not doing very well, and the worst player came up to bat. He was kind of a tough, bad-news guy, and had struck out twice already in that game. We had pretty good seats, and my dad stood up and yelled, “Close your eyes and swing at anything!” The batter got a home run! My dad was my hero. After high fives, we laughed and laughed about how my dad made the batter hit a home-run.
My Dad was the Silly Dad for as long as I could remember. He would read us bedtimes stories and make up different voices for each of the charcters. Then when I had Birthday paries with my friends he would put on silly masks and chase us around. All the girls would run around laughing and screaming. And he still is silly but now he is the silly Grandpa…OG we call him. He just makes Lily’s face light up and giiggle everyday being silly. He took me to Glen Ivy for my 18th Birthday and now Its my turn to repay a life time of love a laughs!!!
My dad LOVES to make us, his 5 children, laugh! He will frequently tell the same jokes over and over to get us to laugh, forgetting we’ve heard that joke 100 times by now… “A man goes lion hunting and he says: ‘I only need one bullet to shoot the lion.’ His friend says: ‘But what if you miss?’ The man says: ‘If I miss, I’ll throw crap at him…’ The friend says: ‘Where are you going to get crap from?’ The man says: ‘Trust me… I’ll have plenty of it!’ The joke really isn’t that funny, but to see his face light up telling it every time I go visit him out of state makes it priceless, and of course I laugh uncontrollably every time.
One time when we were kids my dad made my brother actual green eggs and ham! It was hilarious (even thought we both refused to eat it)! It’s the thought that counts! A+ for creativity!
As my son says daddy looks silly when he plays dragons. He puts on fairy wings (he’s the dragon). He’s Peter Pan and is always down in the dirt playing with the kids. Best Dad ever!
When we eat with Dad, he points toward our back and says “There is your Mom!” when we turn around to check he steals food from our plate in a second.
Sometimes when dining out while leaving, my father will notice a table of occupants with their doggy bag and explain his dinner was so “Wonderful.” Then ask if they would like to trade dinners. Everyone then gets a good laugh! And yes we have left with many of others’ dinners!
My Dad really is silly. He truly wants everyone to laugh and tries to accomplish this through his jokes. So, my dad starts telling his joke. Everyone is waiting for the punchline and he starts to laugh. He looks around to see if we all get it. At first we wait for the rest of the joke. He seems to not understand that he is the only one laughing. Then he continues his boisterous laugh that makes his whole body shake. His glances at us to see if we understood are hilarious. His laughter is so contagious that we are all laughing before he has even completed telling the joke. Punchline doesn’t really matter and often doesn’t make sense but we are all on the floor laughing anyway. Silly dad who makes us all happy!
My dad (Poppy) is so silly. While on a 6 hour long drive with me and my son (7) he tried to break up the drive with his usual humor. My son Christopher started telling his Poppy a story about when he was a baby, but Christopher has a speech problem and it sounded like he was saying when I was a bebe. So Poppy kept joking with Christopher saying, what you were a bebe. What’s a bebe? and then Poppy just kept saying bebe, bebe, Christopher was a bebe. Christopher was laughing so hard he kept saying, “I can’t stop laughing.” We all laughed for a half hour. The next day while I was driving my son in the car to the grocery store he said, mom I am a bebe, I am a bebe, and we laughed as we sang the song together. Thanks to Poppy for taking a word and making it silly for us. We love you tonz. Only you can do that for us.
My Dad is the best…we are the only ones in the
block who do not have a gardener. My Dad
insists on cutting his own grass while blasting
80′s disco and dancing around the front yard.
Dad’s philosophy: The time to be a crazy-old-man is when you’re sane and can enjoy it. Later, no one will know you’re different because you’ve always been this way.
My husband (father of four boys) will get all the boys rowled up and instigate a plunge contest in the backyard pool. Doing the SILLIEST tricks and stunts. It gets the kids out of the house and stop them from being glued to the t.v. Now we have a 10-month old grandson and he can’t wait to continue the legacy.
My Mom is my dad. My dad only lives 45 minutes away, but says it is too far for him. But my mom is the best dad anyway. She is always there for me. She makes sure I always have what I need and will work overtime if she has to to make my birthdays and other holidays special. She is a super mom, thanks to her I don’t feel like I am without a “dad.”
My husband is the Silliest Dad! He is truly a kid at heart and will do things like: at a restaurant he will put cilantro in his teeth and start talking to the server as if he doesn’t know and order. He sacrifices his dignity and makes a fool of himself just to see our kids laugh. He does the BEST imitations of people- any age, man or woman. He makes life FUN!!
My daddy is the world’s greatest clown. since birth he has always brighten by day by making me laugh with his silly faces. No matter how down I may be he has always made me laugh with the dumbest jokes or comments. His humor is contagious and though he may not always feel well himself he never lets us down. His silliness has spread to the family of three little clowns that he raised all by himslef. Thanks Daddy for making me silly just like you!
My dad…zainey, crazy, funny…you never wonder if you are loved or if you will ever laugh again when you are with him! He’s always got a funny sense of humor…even when he was in the hospital after heart surgery..he would make us laugh and still does. I could tell so many funny stories about him.. He definately has kept his sense of humor and has made people laugh despite what he has gone though with his health.
My dad is so silly, since we were kids we would often find shoes or other household items hidden in our pillows and beds if we got up to use the restroom. But the sillest thing I’ve ever seen was my dad trying to do a charade of Dances with Wolves during a game we were playing. He looked like some rabid animal down on all fours on the ground moving around. We laughed so hard that we couldn’t even figure out what movie he was trying to convey to us! =)
My dad’s favorite poem:
One bright day in the middle of the night,
two dead boys get up to fight.
Back to back they face each other
drew their swords and shot each other.
The deaf policeman heard the noise
and came to kill the two dead boys.
If you don’t believe this story’s true,
ask the blind man – he saw it too.
Hi there! My Dad has always been a humorous man even when faced with adversity… my favorite story is my most embarrasing… he took my sister and I shopping for school clothes one summer and we needed underwear so he walked us over to that department in Nordstroms but my sis and I were not having our Dad help us pick out our underwear so we told him to go check out other clothes while we shopped. Next thing you know in a high pitched voice he comes walking towards us with some panty set holding it against him and saying our names and asking if we though our Mom would like them… It was moritfying for us but now that we are older we get a kick out of watching him tease my teenage daughter the same way… somethings just never change…
My dad had everyone in stitches at my wedding with his hilarious speech. What really set it in motion was the fact that he began by pulling a pink g-string out from under his kilt (my family’s Scottish) and threw it into the crowd. To follow that, he pulled out an even smaller tartan “sock” and threw it, saying he was much more comfortable being a “true” Scotsman under the kilt…
My Dad refers to himself as “SUPER DAD!”. My siblings and I always thought of him as a super hero. A man who could do and does everything. I bought him a Superman pin for Fathers Day and know he will wear it all the time, even on his jammies!
My husband is gifted with making our daughters laugh. To get a laugh he’ll sneak up on “mami” and dance crazily then pretend he’s an angel when I turn around.
My daddy takes care of my mom who is going through breast cancer. He tries his best each day to keep her happy through his silly songs and jokes!
My husband works from home which is great because he helps our son with homework, coaches baseball & soccer, chauffers his friends around, etc. Being available like that, makes for a wonderful childhood for my son…..
My husband is such a young at heart dad… Hysterical… He does silly things like pretend he is a chicken… among other impersonations. He makes the kids laugh. he recently played dance central with the kids on the XBOX 360 Kinnect and managed to do a bunch of the moves and we laughed so hard…. he’s not a spring chicken anymore and wore out his back! ha, ha. He needs treatment at Glen Ivy
I vivdly remember my dad walking really fast low to the ground and me and my sisters and brother thought that was the funniest thing ever. Until this day, his silly walk, funny faces and crazy dance moves crack me up. I have even stole some of his moves and done them with my own kids. My daughter loves it!
At the age of 69 my dad is still the silliest man I know.. I am 39, and we went to dinner recently and as I was sitting down and moving to the corner of the booth, My dad looks at the 30ish female server and say’s ” Nobody puts Baby in the corner” the server knew exactly what movie that came from and laughed so hard… That is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.. Another hilarious memory was when we went to the store and my mom asked if she could write a check…. My dad looked at the clerk and said “I wouldn’t take a check from her.. She just got out of jail this morning.” My mom was speechless… He taught me life is too short to take yourself so seriously..
My dad has the best sense of humor of anyone I know. He is older, so thinking ahead he and my mom purchased the Neptune Society Cremation Package. When the sales rep came to the house he had a small wooden box to display where the ashes would be put. My dad reply’s “Is that Pine? Because I am allergic to Pine..” The rep was taken so off guard, and laughed so hard… At almost 70 he laughes at himself everyday…
My dad does something that always makes me laugh. When we are driving in the car with my mom and my mom is trying to tell him something, my dad acts like he can’t hear her and she keeps repeating what she says. He’s done it so much that she believes he has a hearing problem.
Hi my name is sonnie & I’m 5 years old & I love my dad he does this finger walking thing that makes me laugh, he takes me to the park & he huggs me that makes me happy & he plays foot ball with me & I love it .
I think my dad should go to the spa because he can relax . thank you PLEASE PICK MY DADDY =o)
Wow what can I say about my Dad. He’s the greatest. Not much time spent with us due to work, but anyhow, I find this funny. We’re hispanic and I was driving right next to him telling him “HI” he thougt I was a little chinese girl going the wrong way.
My dad’s work was in construction and it usually rained alot just before Christmas came along. He knew it would be hard to buy gifts for 7 kids, so he would tell us that Santa had an accident. He said he landed on a roof and fell and hurt himself so he was out of commission and would not be coming to our house. We belived him, because when it rained, he was home and couldn’t work. either. ………LOL
My dad is 85 years old. He lives like he is half that age however. He goes to play bingo at San Manuel on the bingo bus four times a week with his girlfriend Gina, who has been sick for the last month now but they will both spend her days before surgery together painting the town. She is also 85. What I love about my papa is his wit, charm, sense of humor, and old school Italian way. I grew up without a father and what I loved about him is that he could make me smile when I was having a rough time and the way he alwAys tells me, “keep yer chin up kid, things are gonna get better”. He never once put me down or told me I was not worthy. He loves me as if I am his own. The funniest thing about him is that he has three picture frames in an area in his livingroom hanging up for years with no pictures in those particular fancy frames. And he likes them just like they are, picture-free. Lol. Comical.
My dad is THE SILLIEST! Every night he tucks me in. He starts at the end of the hallway, runs in, and jumps on me. I call it “run and jump”. If he’s tired, he’ll do “stand and fall”, where he just falls on me. It’s super fun and we always laugh a lot. I love him so much. He is the best dad ever!
My husband is the only man I’ve ever known to take his drivers license picture funny faced just to make people laugh. His silliness is truly a gift to the world.
my dad is so hillarious! he is always crackin jokes and saying random stuff! one time he spit out the window and the spit hit him right back in his forehead! bahaha cracks me up still! he says god has it out for him ahah or even in the hospital after his heart attack, we were all teary eyed cause he appeared asleep..and we hear this huuge fart! and i said “DAD!” hes says “what?…im blessing the room..” hahha gotta love my pops!
My dad had a hobby when I was 10 so I would go with him to check on his honey bees. When he opened up one of the hives we got ATTACKED by the sworm… Oh ya, did I mention that he wouldn’t wear a bee suit? There for I didn’t wear one either.
As we both took off running like crazy screaming, swatting, idiots we indured countless bee stings. The bees had burrowed into our clothes and I will never forget the buzzing sound of dozens of bees in my hair while running and being stung to high heaven!
My dad passed away seven years ago, he used to bring us kids to Glen Ivy back then and I have wonderful memories of those times.
…writing silly stories to read to them (a large wad of gum is very funny!)…building stilts for them (but trying them first)…flying around the kitchen (fall down laughing!)…<3
My dad has been a pretty handy man, until the day he decided to fix a leak in our roof. He was walking on the beams in the attic when he slipped and put his foot right through the kitchen ceiling. We could not stop laughing. After taking a few embarrassing pictures of his leg through the ceiling we helped him out. He then tried to cover it up, to no avail, before my mom came home. Boy was he in trouble, all he could do was laugh!
My dad is the smartest man I know and he is a funny guy
He has the most cheesiest lines ever. Like: “Nothing lasts forever. But one thing that does last forever, my love for you.” Cheesy!
He is not afraid to wear ANYTHING out in public. Even the shortest of shorts.
He pulls his sweatpants up to his arm pits and sticks his belly out and walks around outside.
On our last trip to the snow he put on long underwear, ski pants with suspenders and pulled them up to his armpits, a winter cap with fur ear flaps and big bubble ski goggles and strutted around
the living room! I captured these moments on film to share with my kids when I grow up!
My dad is the exact character Chevy Chase plays in National Lampoon’s Vacation. Showing off on his payday he’d ask us kids “Does anyone have change for a 100?”
My dad was always the first to have the latest gadget. He bought me one of the first mobile phones and had it “installed” in my car for safety. Well, technology passed my dad years later. I convinced him to get a new cell phone so he could text. He got the phone prior to our last camping trip together. I showed him how to text as my kids built a campfire. He sat playing with his phone at the campfire. Suddenly, my nephew got a text. “Hi. It’s Grandpa”. He continued to text my kids, sister and I around the campfire. We laughed and laughed. It was delightful and silly. A cherished memory.
