A Few Intentions from our Guests…

Wow, what a fabulous response. We received over 140 letters telling us about your intentions for 2011. I read each one and I was touched by the very personal glimpses into so many lives, as people shared their desires for self improvement and change. I laughed and I cried, and often I was reminded of my own intentions…

Some commented that the act of writing out their intentions helped clarify and strengthen them. This is a great thing and we hope it was helpful for all. Others mentioned that sharing their intentions with family or friends and having their support made a big difference in their confidence to follow through. Kimberly G said “I have 2 girlfriends who I have shared my heart with and they have promised me to lovingly & firmly walk this journey with me.”
Here are a few more simple tips for creating successful intentions.

Reading through the submissions, this year there are many who will to work to improve their health and manage their weight, eat better and exercise more,  manage stress and make time for themselves, and others who are seeking ways to give back. Here is a small sampling of what we received:

  • To care for others, the way others took care of me when I was stressed out.
  • This year I am going to put my health first.
  • I am going to move my focus onto the positive of every situation, and pick my battles.
  • I am going to keep a journal, because writing this down right now has made things seem clearer.
  • This year, I intend to entertain more and invite friends over… as well continue to make new friendships.
  • I’m making it a point to not procrastinate and address everything when I’m encountered with a decision. I’m making it a point to be punctual since I am a notoriously late person.
  • Seek advice from a mentor.
  • To simply treat myself as I do everyone  else in my family, I will mindfully make myself an equal priority. I will make breakfast and stop to actually enjoy it too, I will pack not only the kids & hubby ‘s lunch but also my own, I will allow myself to take a bath read and go to bed on time.
  • To be a better version of me so that I can be more for others.
  • To stay focused on what is most important…my family.
  • I want to try to be more open to taking help, asking for aid or accepting items or services offered to me.
  • This year is the year I become financially fit and pay off debt that has been looming.
  • This year I will love more.  I will be more romantic with my husband expressing more intimacy and affection.

Reading these submissions has made me feel more connected to everyone who visits Glen Ivy. To be fair, I have decided to include one of my own intentions for 2011: To express my gratitude or appreciation more openly and regularly, sometimes verbally, but more often to take the time to send a hand written note. While good deeds and doers will be recognized, this practice benefits me greatly by making those things that are good and that I am grateful for the more important focus of my thoughts and time, in turn making for a happier me.

We will continue to read through the many entries this weekend and announce the winner on Tuesday January 11.

Have a great weekend,
Amanda
